The Families of Genery’s Gap

A local history that preserves names, relationships and stories that might otherwise be lost with time.

“The Families of Genery’s Gap, Alabama”

by Madge Pettit

Originally copyrighted in 1986, this book preserves information about the early families and pioneers of Genery’s Gap—located partly in Jefferson County and partly in Shelby County. Many of these early settlers came to Alabama from the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia.

The book also contains sections about the mountains, the gap and the Indians; the community emblem; the church William Genery built; and a cemetery census. These records may help us better understand how the families of the community were connected and how many of them relate to those buried at Genery’s Gap Cemetery.

The edition pictured was published in 2007 by Heritage Books, Inc., Publishing Division, of Westminster, Maryland. It is an indexed paperback of approximately 152 pages.
